We met in Al-anon. We are very lucky to be amongst other family members in recovery. We consider the 12 steps a way of life and we have been sharing that way of life for the past 5 years.

We knew each other for a couple of years before we began dating. We would all go out for dinner weekly after our Thursday night Al-Anon meeting, until one night Jeff Bonner our mutual friend said,

"Well! I guess it's just you two for dinner then!"

A week after he asked Lucas,

"Have you ever considered dating Jessamyn?"

Soon thereafter Jessamyn and Lucas moved in together and soon thereafter that, COVID hit.

So Lucas and Jessamyn were

1. living together

2. working together

3. going to meetings together

We went for it!

In the 5 years that we have been together we feel like we have lived at least 10 years of life .

We have traveled to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Palm Springs and many other places.

We have made so many beautiful memories together and have celebrated and supported each other through all of it!

March 2024 we went to Kauai to visit our Auntie Carol and Uncle Domi for the second year in a row. It is our happy place. The 3rd or 4th day Jessamyn was wondering if Lucas was going to ask or not. The day he planned to propose, we woke up with the expectation to eat whole broiled fish that Domi and Lucas had caught the day before. Lucas was feeling really nervous to his stomach and I surprisingly ate 3-4 of those little suckers. Huh! They don't taste half bad if you dip them in soy sauce.

That day we went to Ke'e Beach and Lucas asked Jessamyn to grab 2 sticks and for each of them to draw half of a heart in the sand and meet in the middle. Standing inside of their heart that they made together he told her many nice things that ended with him asking if she would like to spend the rest of her life with him.
